Trend Tuesday: Picnic in the Park

First off, let me start off by saying that this post does not feature Bobby the Pig. I know, I know. I’m crushed too.

Well, Memorial Day Weekend has come and gone. While it was the coldest and wettest one I can remember, it still means spending time with family and friends as much as possible. Oh – and taking advantage of all the holiday weekend sales. That’s always crucial – particularly when your boyfriend lets you take him shopping. So I did all of those things … and got to sleep in … and watched Arrested Development. It was pretty awesome. But Monday was an awesome day. 75 and not a cloud in the sky, perfect opportunity to spend some time outside.

This week I was tasked with my going out outfit. Well, being that “going out” meant day drinking, I was dressed pretty toned down than my usual night on the town ensembles. Enter #classypicnic. Yes, the hashtag is relevant. Ever since my mom gave me a fancy picnic basket for my birthday last year, Amy and I hold classy picnic, where we hang out in the common with friends and eat lots of delicious gourmet picnic food. My contribution this year?

Lots of cheese … needless to say we were full in 5 minutes. Also, I had been so used to the cold, overcast weather I completely forgot that I burn when in the sun for more than 10 minutes. THANKS PALE COMPLEXION. On the plus side, my tan (or slightly darker pale shade) is underway for the season.

Anyway, back to the trend. As this month wraps up, so does my journey with the denim vest. I’ve really liked having it as a layering piece, particularly during all of this weird weather. It goes over anything while still feeling effortless. For my #classypicnic ensemble, I wanted to go to the sundress route. And finally, thanks to the warm temperatures and bright sunshine, I could.

Seriously, I can’t stress how awesome it was just to be able to sit in the grass with friends, throw a frisbee around (until a cop yelled at the group) and eat delicious food. This is what weekends should be like for the rest of summer. Well, that and hitting the beach.

Behind me is the pond that houses the infamous swan boats. I plan on taking a ride on one this summer. It’s uber touristy, but I’m feeling pretty in love with Boston right about now. Plus I have a great picture of them in my kitchen and want to live it out loud … or something.

Okay, okay. I get that you need to see the actual outfit:

There we go.

There we go.

At least my knees are starting to get some color by this point in the day. I immediately regret those boots after seeing tan lines reminiscent to when I had to wear shin guards in field hockey. Those tan lines were the worst. Anyway – the vest. Yes, the vest.

I totally plan on wearing this vest the rest of summer. I think it’s my favorite to pair it with sundresses, and those are pretty much a staple for my brunching schedule, I definitely see the vest making an appearance. For this look, I’d say it was an 8.5 to pull off – totally easy. Overall, I’d give it a 7.5. Looking back at some of my previous posts, I liked some outfits better than others. Of course, it is probably because I didn’t like the outfit as a whole, not really the vest’s fault, I just need to be better about styling.

Well, another month, another trend. I still think the leather T-shirt is my favorite of these experiments thus far, but I must press on. To be completely honest with you, I have no idea what next week will hold for the new Trend Tuesday. I will definitely be shopping this coming weekend. If you can think of any trends you’d like to see me try out – please feel free to suggest – I’m always willing to embarrass myself for a good cause. Except I’m going to automatically refuse hot pants – no one should ever have to see that.
