Midweek Music: Is Taylor Swift Actually Growing Up?

We do a lot of Taylor Swift bashing around here, but I can’t help noticing the increasing number of “howevers” after our sassy remarks. And I secretly suspect that it’s because we can’t help recognizing that if we look deep into our fashion loving souls, Taylor Swift might actually be learning to dress herself. I know. I said it. You are probably having this reaction right now:

Please mind you I’m wincing all the while. But is T. Swift actually finding her place between edgy, dramatic and sophisticated?

Yes, she has a pathetic dating record, yes, she writes childish breakup songs about her exes, and yes, she became famous a little too young by singing emo country songs with her dad (i.e. Teardrops on my Guitar – vomit inducing). However – see what’s happening here – she’s starting to grow up a little, slowly mind you. And I’m fairly confident that she’s trying to show the word her adult self through her mature sense of style. I don’t agree that her attitude yet matches her fashion sense, but maybe it will catch up eventually.

Now that I’ve said this one nice thing about Miss Swift, I feel the need to backup my claim. So here we have it, in true red carpet fashion. The 2013 style roundup:

She’s taking into consideration that she doesn’t need to show everything at once. If it’s shorter, she has sleeves. If it’s a floor length gown, the dress is backless. To me this is a small sign of maturity, so well done, Taylor.

Of course her hair is another issue in itself.
